The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America. Today’s PTA is comprised nationally of more than 4 million parents, teachers, grandparents, caregivers, and other caring adults who share a commitment to improving the education, health, and safety of all children. We speak with one voice for every child.

While basic public education in the United States is “free,” it cannot be sustained without families, teachers and members of the community committed to supporting the educational needs of students. Our educational system relies heavily on the support of parents and others through the community through volunteering as well as financial support. Without the PTA at Sunny Hills we would have far fewer books, no fine arts program or art teacher, no spelling bee and no curriculum support for teachers which covers many educational supplies that students use every day. Simply put, without the PTA our school would look and feel very different.

Most schools in the United States sponsor a PTA chapter, such as our PTA organization at Sunny Hills. At Sunny Hills we support a number of educational and community building activities. These include:

How do YOU become involved? You can become a member of the PTA by simply joining. But we hope that you can take part in all three steps when you become a member, thereby becoming part of a school community who wants to make a difference in the lives of our children.

The FIRST STEP is to join the PTA, which is $25 per family. This provides you with access to the online student directory, emergency shelter supplies for each student as well as support to the State and National PTA advocacy groups, the main voice for our children at the state and federal government.

The SECOND STEP is to find a way to contribute. Would you like to volunteer? Have a passion about something, such as art, science or the spelling bee? There are lots of ways to be involved. Volunteering is NOT mandatory but encouraged and greatly appreciated! There are ways to support the school and PTA outside of school hours.

The THIRD STEP is financial support. Our annual fundraiser will happen in October, which is where we get the majority of our funds to run the PTA. (The membership dues of $25 covers access to the online student directory, emergency shelter supplies for each student, support for the State and National PTA advocacy groups and administrative fees).
