Each Friday, the smell of declicious popcorn is in the air! Students can purchase popcorn for 25 cents, so just "pop" on over to the PTA room and enjoy a bag. The popcorn chair and committee are responsible for making and selling popcorn to students during second recess on Fridays The chair of this committee is responsible for coordinating parent volunteers on the committee. They are also responsible for ordering the popcorn, preparing and communicating the weekly schedule, training the committee, collecting funds and giving them to the PTA treasurer.

The Scholastic Book Fair takes place in the fall and lasts one week. Students and parents can shop and purchase books at the fair, with proceeds benefiting our PTA sponsored programs. The chairs and committee are responsible for coordinating with Scholastic, promoting and staffing the book fair. On Tuesday of the fair week, a family event and read-in are usually planned. Clothing and accessories can be purchased online by students, parents and staff to raise money for PTA sponsored programs. Mustang Spirit Wear is sold in the Fall and typically again in January. The chair for Mustang Spirit Wear helps coordinate the products for ordering and works with a local vendor for ordering and screen printing needs. Online ordering and deadlines are provided and advertised when orders are being taken, so keep an eye out for information in the eNews!

Dine with Sunny Hills is a program that supports our school and builds community by creating partnerships with local restaurants. Quarterly, Sunny Hills will partner with local restaurants and earn up to 20% of food and beverage sales sold on the event night.
**Important**
All families attending MUST bring in a hard copy of the Dine with Sunny Hills form and present it to the server for us to earn the 20%. The server is required to attach the flyer to every bill. Thank you for supporting Sunny Hills!!

This chairperson processes matching funds forms, reconciles funds received, and maintains database of parents that work at companies that provide matching funds. The chairperson also encourages matching funds for large fundraisers such as the Walk-a-Thon.

This fun family event is an annual tradition at Sunny Hills in conjunction with our Screen Free Week. Because this is a popular event, it will be held at a larger venue - Pacific Cascade Middle School. Sunny Hills staff call the Bingo numbers and prizes are awarded to students with Bingos. Brownies and milk are also provided as a special treat. The chair and committee of this program oversee the planning and coordination of details for this super fun night.

You Scream, I Scream, We ALL scream for ICE CREAM! This chair and committee are responsible for planning, promoting, and orchestrating the Spring Ice Cream Social at Sunny Hills in conjunction with either the Art Fair or Young Author's Night. Pizza, Salad, and water are also available for purchase during this event, so come enjoy an evening with other Sunny Hills' families and eat dinner too. We think you'll like this event so much that you'll give it a giant 3 scoops!!

This program encourages all Sunny Hills' students and families to turn off the TV (and all screens) for one week. This event occurs the same week as the Bingo Family Night and students can earn an extra bingo card for each day they are "screen free". The TV Turn-Off Chair and committee are responsible for organizing any activities to occur that week, kicking off TV turn-off week during a lunch assembly, and getting students involved and providing incentives.

The Legislative Director will work to keep the Executive Committee and membership appraised of key state and local legislative issues and seek the committee’s input if necessary. If appropriate, this may also require enlisting other members to help advocate for issues or building relationships outside of the PTA in the community to work collaboratively on issues.

The Budget Planning Committee will meet in April/May to provide a proposed budget for the upcoming school year to be voted on at a General Membership Meeting late spring. This budget will go into effect on July 1 and will allow the PTA to conduct business over the summer. Members of this committee may include outgoing and incoming Treasurers and incoming elected officers.

The Bus greeter chair and committee are responsible for greeting the kindergarteners and bus riders every morning for the first week of school. The greeters also meet the students at the end of the day and help them find the correct bus to return home. The chair is responsible for securing approximately 2 volunteers per bus (usually 10-14 people).

At least one financial review and audit will be performed at the end of the school year to encompass the fiscal year of July 1 to June 30. We do this by bridging the gap between funds the state provides for basic education and the dollars our schools need to prepare students for success in school and life. This committee is charged with soliciting from the school community the names of individuals who are extraordinary volunteers at school and in the community at large. They will score all nominees on a rubric and present the winners with a gift of appreciation and an invitation to the District PTA Council’s Golden Acorn reception in March. This committee will also be charged with soliciting from the school community the names of educators for consideration for the Outstanding Educator Awards held in May.

This committee chair is responsible for communicating the benefits of the bond/levy package to the Sunny Hills' community and recruiting volunteers to help with the campaign.

Yearbook

This committee produces an annual Sunny Hills' yearbook available for purchase by students and staff, and delivered in June. The chairs and committee work to plan and design the yearbook. The yearbook features every class, specialist, and school group. It also highlights other activities that occur during the school year. Several volunteers who are comfortable with a camera are needed to photograph various school-wide and grade-level activities throughout the year. Also, 10-12 volunteers are needed for photo layout (Feb-early April); and another 2-3 volunteers are needed to assist with photo follow-up, sales and distribution (March – June). A small supply of extra yearbooks are also sold on a first come first served basis at the end of the school year.

The chair of this committee is responsible for scheduling all library volunteers. Scheduling is done in the fall. Volunteers work on a rotational basis (approx. once a month depending on the number of volunteers from each class) and help with shelving books, checking out books, and preparing overdue slips.

Room Parents act as a PTA liaison and are chosen by each teacher. Depending on the needs of each teacher, they usually help the teacher schedule classroom volunteers and help coordinate party planning. The Room Parent Coordinator coordinates all the Room Parents. He/she provides information to the Room Parents who in turn distributes (via e-mail) information to their class.

The Washington State PTA, in partnership with the National PTA, sponsors a state wide arts education contest in the fall known as the Reflections Program. Each year there is a different theme for the program, and this information is available on the WA State PTA website, www.wastatepta.org. The student art entries will be judged at the school (Sunny Hills), council (Issaquah School District) and Washington State PTA levels. The State PTA winners are entered into the National PTA contest. Chair promotes and organizes the program in conjunction with the State PTA.

The Art Fair and Young Author's Night alternate each year in conjunction with the Spring Ice Cream Social. This Art Fair chair and committee work with the class art docents to plan a theme and coordinate details for the Art Fair, including setting up and taking down the art being displayed.

The objective of this program is to foster a love of reading. This is a voluntary program for the students, though the majority of students choose to participate at some level. Students earn prizes as they read outside class time and record their reading minutes online. A parent volunteer is needed from each classroom to review the logs and award the prizes. Chairperson oversees classroom volunteer tallying, weekly prize distribution, and communications. Classroom volunteers sign up at the classroom level.

The goal of the Sunny Hills HOLIDAY GIFT PROGRAM is to help Issaquah families in need while demonstrating to Sunny Hills students the importance of charitable giving. The program helps fill the Issaquah Food Bank's holiday shopping center for participating Issaquah school district children ages birth - 18. The program begins before Thanksgiving and runs for about two weeks.

This committee organizes meals and/or provides moral support to a family that is experiencing significant impairment/duress due to health issues. This committee also assists a family, on behalf of the PTA, in any type of reception/memorial that the family would like in the event there is an unfortunate loss within the Sunny Hills' family.

This committee is responsible for promoting and collecting Thanksgiving food donations for distribution to local needy families. Each classroom has a basket/box to collect donations during the first two weeks of November. Money donations will be used by the Food Bank to purchase perishable items and turkeys. General Enrichment

Each year, the Sunny Hills PTA accepts grant applications that benefit our school. The Enrichment Grant Committee then determine which grant applications to fund. This committee is chaired by the Vice President. A committee of 5-7 PTA members, balanced by grade levels (K-5), is formed to review and weigh all the grant applications based on the grant criteria. The committee chair presents a recommendation report to the Board, at which time the Board votes whether to approve the grant recommendations. This committee's work is in the fall. Enrichment grants allow teachers to buy classroom supplies, teaching tools, and invite speakers/presenters to teach specialized lessons to the kids.

SAGE is a once-a-week gifted education program for 3rd-5th graders. Acceptance into the program is based on standardized test scores and other criteria.

These fun summer play groups are for incoming Kindergarteners, allowing children and parents to connect prior to attending school. Play groups will be planned at Sunny Hills' playground as well as other local area parks. We hope seeing some familiar faces on the first day of school will ease any anxiety for kindergarteners and parents too!

This chair position would oversee the Lost and Found. Items would be collected and kept in the MPR. Newsletter announcements will be made reminding parents to check lost and found. Periodically, items will be donated to the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank or another designated charity. Before this is done, parents will get another newsletter notification announcing the date of donation.

This chairperson acts as liaison between the Issaquah PTSA Council Parent Education representative and the Sunny Hills community. They are responsible for seeing that articles are placed in the Mustang Messenger regarding parent education opportunities within our community. At times, they may be called upon to research a specific parent education opportunity and schedule a class or meeting in conjunction with a General Membership meeting.

The Emergency Preparedness Chair is a liaison for our school community. This person needs to attend CERT training for the school. Volunteers will be responsible for maintaining and rotating/replenishing (each spring) our school emergency supplies. Funds to procure needed supplies are received from parents who purchase Emergency Kits via the PTA website. Committee members assist in purchasing supplies and restocking kits.

The Issaquah School District nurses perform vision and hearing testing, as well as head lice checks for all Sunny Hills students on a yearly basis. This chairperson is responsible for acting as liaison to Sunny Hills' nurse, soliciting and scheduling volunteers and securing refreshments. A total of 40 volunteers (20 during the AM time slot and 20 during the PM time slot) are needed for this large undertaking and they will be trained to work immediately prior to their shift. Because this process is very focused and busy, volunteers are asked to not bring preschoolers along.

The Sunny Hills PTA provides full funding for the use of BrainPop.com during school hours. Teachers use the brainpop.com website to enrich classroom lessons. Use of brainpop.com is also provided during after school hours, but this portion is funded using school ASB funds. To get login access, just ask your child's teacher!

In addition to the district newly adopted Elementary Science Curriculum, the Sunny Hills PTA provides funding for 2 additional Science Enrichment lessons each year for all grades. Science Enrichment lessons are contracted with "Science To Go" (Kate Poaster).

The PTA sponsored Sunny Hills Elementary Science Fair is held each year in the spring, and all students are invited to participate by entering a science project. Our website will allow all participants to register online this year! The chair and committee are responsible for planning and orchestrating the Science Fair. Promotion of the event to students and families starts approximately two months before the event. The PTA sponsors a Science Fair Kick-off assembly around this time to get students excited and encourage them to enter the fair.
