The Bus greeter chair and committee are responsible for greeting the kindergarteners and bus riders every morning for the first week of school. The greeters also meet the students at the end of the day and help them find the correct bus to return home. The chair is responsible for securing approximately 2 volunteers per bus (usually 10-14 people).

We do this by bridging the gap between funds the state provides for basic education and the dollars our schools need to prepare students for success in school and life. The ISF Liaison helps to communicate information from ISF back to the Sunny Hills' PTA Board and community.

This committee is charged with soliciting from the school community the names of individuals who are extraordinary volunteers at school and in the community at large. This committee produces an annual Sunny Hills' yearbook available for purchase by students and staff, and delivered in June. The chairs and committee work to plan and design the yearbook. The yearbook features every class, specialist, and school group. It also highlights other activities that occur during the school year. Several volunteers who are comfortable with a camera are needed to photograph various school-wide and grade-level activities throughout the year. Also, 10-12 volunteers are needed for photo layout (Feb-early April); and another 2-3 volunteers are needed to assist with photo follow-up, sales and distribution (March – June). A small supply of extra yearbooks are also sold on a first come first served basis at the end of the school year.

The art docent chairperson will identify a parent volunteer from each classroom to provide art lessons to students approximately once per month. The chair will work with classroom docents to provide training at the beginning of the year, will update and revise notebooks and resource materials, and will work with volunteers. Classroom art docents implement already designed grade-level art lessons in coordination with the classroom teacher requests. Classroom docents sign up at classroom level.

The objective of this program is to foster a love of reading. This is a voluntary program for the students, though the majority of students choose to participate at some level. Students earn prizes as they read outside class time and record their reading minutes on log sheets provided to them for that purpose. A parent volunteer is needed from each classroom to review the logs and award the prizes. Chairperson oversees classroom volunteer tallying, monthly prize redemptions, and communications. Classroom volunteers sign up at the classroom level.

The Washington State PTA, in partnership with the National PTA, sponsors a state wide arts education contest in the fall known as the Reflections Program. Each year there is a different theme for the program, and this information is available on the WA State PTA website, www.wastatepta.org. The student art entries will be judged at the school (Sunny Hills), council (Issaquah School District) and Washington State PTA levels. The State PTA winners are entered into the National PTA contest. Chair promotes and organizes the program in conjunction with the State PTA.

Let's all go to the Movies! This is a new program for the 2011-12 school year based on feedback from the Spring PTA Survey. Movie dates are September 30, 2011 and February 10, 2012 from 3-5pm. $10 admission donation per student includes 2 peanut-free snacks and bottled water. Funds raised from this program will help the PTA provide classroom support and purchase “Just Right” books for each class at Sunny Hills.

This fundraiser helps provide funds for much needed PTA sponsored programs. The chairs and committee are responsible for decorating the school and advertising the event, working with 3rd party representatives on incentives, kickoff assembly and other issues, distributing packets and all other follow-up correspondence to students/parents, coordinating all PR for the event (newsletter, reader board, eBlasts, phone blasts, website, facebook, etc.), organizing volunteers to assist in money counting and product distribution, collecting and counting money, reconciling all orders, distributing order to parents, following up on incorrect orders and distributing prizes to students. The event runs from September to October.

Clothing and accessories can be purchased by students, parents and staff to raise money for PTA sponsored programs. Orders will be available online starting this year! Mustang Wear is sold in the Fall and typically again in January. The chair(s) for Mustang Spirit Wear help coordinate the products up for ordering and work with a local vendor for ordering and screen printing needs. Online ordering and deadlines are provided and advertised when orders are being taken, so keep an eye out for information in the eNews!

Each Friday, the smell of declicious popcorn is in the air! Students can purchase popcorn for 25 cents, so just "pop" on over to the PTA room and enjoy a bag. The popcorn chair and committee are responsible for making and selling popcorn to students during lunch on Fridays (11am-1pm). The chair of this committee is responsible for coordinating parent volunteers on the committee. They are also responsible for ordering the popcorn, preparing and communicating the weekly schedule, training the committee, collecting funds and giving them to the PTA treasurer.

The chair of this committee is responsible for scheduling all library volunteers. Scheduling is done in the fall. Volunteers work on a rotational basis (approx. once a month depending on the number of volunteers from each class) and help with shelving books, checking out books, and preparing overdue slips.

This chair and committee volunteers are responsible for typing and binding students' writings for the Young Author's Night, held every other year. The chair of this committee is also responsible for orienting/training volunteerings and coordinating the completion of jobs. Each class should have a publishing station representative helping their teacher. For those classes where a parent volunteer is not selected in the class, teachers can then utilize the publishing station for assistance in typing and binding.

Room parents would act as a PTA liaison and are the option of each teacher. Depending on the needs of each teacher, they usually help the teacher schedule other classroom volunteers to help with things like reading, math, copying, or party planning. The Room Parent Coordinator coordinates all the room parents. He/she provides information to the room parents and works with them to obtain volunteer support within each classroom for different PTA programs (e.g., Staff Appreciation, Walkathon, Eager Reader, etc).

Food allergies for students at Sunny Hills is a growing concern. Parent support and education are provided by our program chair who is passionate and well educated on food allergies. These fun summer play groups are for incoming Kindergarteners, allowing children and parents to connect prior to attending school. Play groups will be planned at Sunny Hills' playground as well as other local area parks. We hope seeing some familiar faces on the first day of school will ease any anxiety for kindergarteners and parents too!

This chair position would oversee the Lost and Found. Items would be put on hangers, tagged with a colored sticker and dated based on how long it has been in the lost and found. Newsletter announcements will be made reminding parents to check lost and found. Periodically, items will be donated to the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank or another designated charity. Before this is done, parents will get another newsletter notification announcing the deadline for donation.

This committee is instrumental in helping all families at Sunny Hills to feel welcome. They accomplish this by taking them on a tour of the school, inviting them to the most recent PTA event, providing them with information on the school and the PTA, answering any questions these families might have, and introducing them to other families.

This chairperson acts as liaison between the Issaquah PTSA Council Parent Education representative and the Sunny Hills community. They are responsible for seeing that articles are placed in the Mustang Messenger regarding parent education opportunities within our community. At times, they may be called upon to research a specific parent education opportunity and schedule a class or meeting in conjunction with a General Membership meeting.

Enrichment Staff Grants

Each year, the Sunny Hills PTA accepts teacher grant applications that benefit our school. The Ways and Means PTA board director and the Enrichment grant committee then determine which grant applications to fund. This committee is chaired by the VP of Ways and Means. A committee of 5-7 PTA members, balanced by grade levels (K-5), is formed to review and weigh all the grant applications based on the grant criteria. The committee chair presents a recommendation report to the Board, at which time the Board votes whether to approve the grant recommendations. This committee's work is in the fall. VOICE is funded by Issaquah Schools Foundation in cooperation with the Issaquah School District. It stands for Volunteers Of Issaquah Changing Education. Students are referred by teachers and counselors as needing extra support whether it is academic, social or emotional. This fun family event is an annual tradition at Sunny Hills in conjunction during our TV Turn Off Week. Because this is a popular event, it is held at a larger venue, Pine Lake Middle School. Principal White and teachers call the Bingo numbers and prizes are awarded to student's with Bingos. Brownies and milk are also provided as a special treat. The chair and committee of this program oversee the planning and coordination of details for this super fun night.

Come enjoy a nice cold Popsicle treat at the "Meet Your Teacher Popsicle Social"! This is a fun event that encourages families to gather and socialize with one another prior to school starting. Forms can be turned in on this day, but it is not the focus of the event. This is a great opportunity to meet the PTA Board members and learn more about the PTA without feeling intimidated. Different displays will also be made available to inform the community of what the PTA does and what upcoming programs and fundraisers we have!

This chair and committee are responsible for planning, promoting, and orchestrating the Spring Ice Cream Social at Sunny Hills in conjunction with either the Art Fair or Young Author's Night. Pizza, Salad, and water are also available for purchase during this event, so come enjoy an evening with other Sunny Hills' families and eat dinner too. We think you'll like this event so much that you'll give it a giant 3 scoops!!
TV Turn-Off Week

This program encourages all Sunny Hills' students and families to turn off the TV (and all screens) for one week. This event occurs the same week as the Bingo Family Night and students can earn an extra bingo card for each day they are "screen free". The TV Turn-Off Chair and committee are responsible for organizing any activities to occur that week, kicking off TV turn-off week during a lunch assembly, and getting students involved and providing incentives.

Banking Day, offered through Washington Federal, presents a great opportunity for students to learn about saving money. Banking Day is held before school on the first and third Thursdays of each month. To open an account, students will need to submit a completed form (forms available in office) and deposit a minimum of $5. Washington Federal will match the initial $5 deposit. Program typically starts mid- October and goes through the first week of June.

The PTA sponsored Sunny Hills Elementary Science Fair is held each year in the spring, and all students are invited to participate by entering a science project. Our website will allow all participants to register online this year! The chair and committee are responsible for planning and orchestrating the Science Fair. Promotion of the event to students and families starts approximately two months before the event. The PTA sponsors a Science Fair Kick-off assembly around this time to get students excited and encourage them to enter the fair.

This program provides gifts to 5-8 families in need throughout the Issaquah School District, while demonstrating to Sunny Hills' students the importance of charitable support. Donations of gifts are provided for children primarily and an effort is also made to provide necessities for the parents and gift certificates for groceries as well. This program begins after Thanksgiving and runs for about 2 weeks. Committee members work to plan and coordinate each class to obtain the items needed.

The Issaquah Meals Program, is run by Catholic Community Services. The Sunny Hills PTA sponsors an assigned number of dinners each year. The program serves meals Monday-Saturday, all year long to the Homeless of Issaquah. Typically families will come together and serve a suggested meal to the local patrons in need. Kids do the serving, while the parents socialize with the patrons. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve those in our community who are less fortunate!

This committee organizes meals and/or provides moral support to a family that is experiencing significant impairment/duress due to health issues. This committee also assists a family, on behalf of the PTA, in any type of reception/memorial that the family would like in the event there is an unfortunate loss within the Sunny Hills' family.

This committee is responsible for promoting and collecting Thanksgiving food donations for distrinution to local needy families. Each classroom has a basket/box to collect donations during the middle part of November. Newsletter entries in November will promote the program further. Donations are also collected at the Sock Hop. A sorting party is held in the multi-purpose room (MPR) with distribution to families the following day (day before Thanksgiving).

The Emergency Preparedness Chair is a liaison for our school community. This person needs to attend CERT training for the school. Volunteers will be responsible for maintaining and rotating/replenishing (each spring) our school emergency supplies. Funds to procure needed supplies are received from parent donations upon the return of first day packets and can be donated on our website. Committee members assist in purchasing supplies and restocking kits.

The Issaquah School District nurses perform vision and hearing testing, as well as head lice checks for all Sunny Hills students on a yearly basis. This chairperson is responsible for acting as liaison to Sunny Hills' nurse, soliciting and scheduling volunteers and securing refreshments. A total of 40 volunteers (20 during the AM time slot and 20 during the PM time slot) are needed for this large undertaking and they will be trained to work immediately prior to their shift. Because this process is very focused and busy, volunteers are asked to not bring preschoolers along.

This is an electronic weekly newsletter which highlights important activities in the coming weeks. It is a partnership between the PTA and the school, and is published every Thursday. The committee chair will gather the articles on a weekly basis (with a Friday 5PM deadline) and arrange the electronic bulletin in a reader friendly fashion. The Mustang Messenger is emailed to the Sunny Hills eNews distribution list and posted on the web.

The chairperson refreshes and maintains the PTA bulletin boards located in the office. This person will be in charge of putting up and taking down fliers and displays in a timely fashion, and making sure that all committees get equal access to the board. In addition, they will assist the front office with the portions of the board devoted to school and community news.

Student Directory

Each year a student directory is printed and distributed to each family paid PTA membership. Additional copies may be purchased for a $5 fee while supplies last. The directory is a highly valued tool for the Sunny Hills community. To put the directory together, the chair will need to work with the office staff to utilize information from the district files. They must also provide each member with a way to elect not to have some or all information provided in the directory. The chair should also work with the Principal to see if the school would like other materials included in the phone directory.
