If you are new to our school, district, or country - first of all, WELCOME! If you have questions we would love to connect with you. Even if we don't know the answer we will definitely find you someone that does. Our school district has a team who's purpose is to help guide families navigate the school system. Our job as FACE in the PTA level is to help all the families feel they belong in our community, guide them in navigating our school, and supporting the bridge with the district team whenever needed.

Holiday Gift Barn

Each year Holiday Gift Barn serves children in the 16 zip code radius served by our food and clothing banks. We turn Pickering Barn into a huge department store where parents choose gifts and stocking stuffers for each of their children. We also have a wrapping station and child care so gifts can stay a surprise until Christmas morning.

To ensure everyone's safety while still brightening families' holiday season, is providing holiday shopping gift cards only this year. Participating families will receive an assigned gift card pick up day and time.

Cultural Bridges

Cultural Bridges is a Issaquah Schools Foundation run program that helps build relationships between families from diverse cultures and languages, their children, the ISD, and the broader Issaquah community through outreach, events, mentoring, translation services and a magazine published in 7 languages. To access the latest issue click here.

What does Family Partnership mean to parents?

It means supporting your child in many ways. Here are some ideas:

  • Discuss school work or new learning with your child. “What did you learn today?”
  • Talk to or read with your child in your home language. Help your child maintain their home language.
  • Connect with other families to get important information and build friendships - through PTSA events, social media, neighborhood friendships, and friends who speak your language(s).
  • Build a positive relationship with your child’s teacher(s) and principal
  • Ask the school/teacher how you can help or volunteer in the school

To support families the ISD:

  • Has Family Partnership Liaisons at each school building (at Sunny Hills we have Francisca)
  • Holds Parent Information Events to help families navigate schools
  • Provides translated resources in Chinese, Spanish and Korean for families
  • Hold Family Connection Meetings to help new families to the ISD
  • Has a Family Partnership Team that provides input and ideas on how the district can support our families and students.

Family Connections Meetings

New families to the district are invited to attend Family Connections meeting to better understand and navigate the school system. Families are invited to ask questions about schools and the district. District employees will discuss programs and resources offered in the district. Spanish and Chinese interpreters are available at the meetings.

Sunny Hills PTA is looking for someone to fulfill the position of Family and Community Engagement Program Coordinator (FACE).  This position aims to support and engage all families that might not feel currently represented!
